Jesus is not merely sent by God; he reveals God
John begins his Gospel with language that echoes Genesis: in the beginning was the Word. The Word is with God and is God, and then the Word becomes flesh. Christian faith does not say God turned into a man or that the Father is the Son. It says the eternal Word, personally distinct from the Father, entered human life as Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the climactic speech of God
Hebrews honors earlier prophets, but it does not place Jesus as one more messenger in the same line. In these last days, God has spoken by his Son. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact imprint of his nature. That is why Christians cannot accept a lower view of Jesus while claiming to honor Scripture.
Jesus is preeminent in creation and redemption
Paul says all things were created through and for Christ, and through him God reconciles all things. This is not how the Bible speaks of a mere creature. The same Jesus who truly shares our humanity also stands at the center of creation, the church, and reconciliation.
Worked example
The moment
A Muslim friend says, 'We love Jesus too. He was a great prophet, but not God.'
What you might say
"I am glad you honor Jesus. Christians also believe he is a prophet, but the New Testament says more: the eternal Word became flesh, the Son reveals God perfectly, and the risen Jesus is Lord. So the question is not whether Jesus is less than a prophet; it is whether the Bible presents him as more."
Why this works
It begins with common ground, avoids caricature, and then moves to the biblical claim that Jesus is more than a prophet.
Watch out for
- Saying 'Jesus is God' without explaining Father/Son distinction.
- Arguing as if Muslims do not honor Jesus at all.
- Starting with philosophy before showing what Scripture actually says.
