Heart checks after hard conversations
When a conversation goes hot or stalls, the next ten minutes matter more than the previous hour. Run a short examen before you reply, post, or vent.
Starting prompt
Lord, search me. Was I bearing witness to you, or to me? Show me the difference, and give me grace to come back kindly.
Practical disciplines
- Slow down. Take five minutes before responding to a hostile message — by phone, online, or in person.
- Ask: did I love this person well? Did I represent Jesus or my own pride?
- Confess what was off — to the Lord and, where appropriate, to the friend you were talking with.
- Write down one specific intercession for them, and one thing you want to say differently next time.
